Interludes for Congas - score - for one player
The Interludes for Congas are short improvisational pieces employing each a very specific and narrowly defined extended technique. They are not compositions in the strict sense, but rather instigations to improvise, and to explore specific lexical areas of the instrument. The “score” consists of a simple (albeit detailed) verbal description of the technique to be used in each piece, and the performer is then free to improvise or even compose his own version within this idiomatic constrain. The pieces don’t have a prescribed duration; however, in virtue of their mono-thematic nature, the original intention is that they should be treated as musical miniatures, and develop their material concisely.
A recorded version of the first three Interludes for Congas (Thump, Hiss and Tap) is available for reference on the album A THOUSAND RAWHIDE DIAPHRAGMS.
